A remote fob can look exactly like the one you need, have the same number of buttons and even accept the same blade – yet still be unsuitable because it transmits on the wrong radio frequency. Knowing how to identify car key frequency before ordering is one of the quickest ways to avoid an incorrect replacement, wasted programming time and a vehicle left without a working remote.

Frequency is only one compatibility detail, but it is a critical one. It must be checked alongside the key’s part number, button layout, blade profile, transponder chip type and vehicle fitment information. A replacement key is rarely chosen correctly by appearance alone.

What car key frequency means
